Douglas Jon Henke was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa later
graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from
Cornell College. After working as a research assistant in
neurobiology at the University of Iowa department of Psychiatry he
began his professional training at the University of Iowa, College of
Medicine, receiving his M.D. in 1982. After an internship in Family
practice at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, he
completed specialty training in 1986 after three years of Ob-Gyn
residency at West Virginia University Medical Center in Morgantown,
West Virginia.Dr. Henke began a private practice in Iron Mountain
in 1986 receiving board certification from the American Board of Ob-Gyn
in 1988. He has maintained board certification by fulfilling
continuing medical education requirements and passing recertification
examinations. In 1996 he earned certification in Operative
Laparoscopy from the Accreditation Council for Gynecologic Endoscopy.
He has enhanced the spectrum of Ob-Gyn services provided to the
community in many ways including the introduction of Advanced
Operative Laparoscopic Surgery, Hysteroscopy, Laparoscopically
Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy (LAVH), Endometrial Ablation and Tension
Free Vaginal Tape (TVT).
Dr. Henke has been actively involved in the medical community
having held offices including President of the Dickinson-Iron County
Medical Society and Vice President of the Dickinson County Hospital
Medical Staff. He lives in Iron Mountain with his wife Ginni and
their five children Ben, Lily, Sam, Bridget and Colin. His interests
outside of medicine include gardening, farming, automobiles, skiing and
sailing.
